Our Mission

Our Mission:

Hope For the Arctic is dedicated to preserving and celebrating the rich history, culture, and heritage of the Arctic region while raising global awareness of the suicide epidemic affecting its communities.

We believe the emptiness many in the Arctic Region feel can only be filled by what is naturally their own and organically found in their unique culture and heritage. We don’t believe we have the magic answers but hope to create a community that may provide some.

We hope to raise awareness of the threat climate change poses to the northernmost part of our planet and the dangers that exist should we allow this region to disappear due to our own misuse of the planet’s resources. To be frank, if you care about the oil, you should care about the people.

We strive to provide culturally sensitive support to Arctic communities, including connecting members to the stories and wisdom of their elders.

By sharing these stories and promoting the value of each individual's life, we aim to foster a sense of hope and resilience that empowers community members to lead healthy and fulfilling lives without forcing any one belief system upon them.

Where you find hope is where hope is, and our goal is simply to increase Hope for the Arctic.

Our Why

While our programs encourage your little ones to become better independent learners, we’ve also included special opportunities for you to work together.

Our Founder:

I’m David Pride, the Founder of the Hope For the Arctic. After returning from a trip to Iqaluit, Nunavut, where I was speaking at a conference, I created this movement. Before and after I spoke, I heard many stories about the loneliness epidemic in the North and how many people turn to suicide to end their personal suffering. The stories deeply moved me, and when I returned home, I began to brainstorm if there was a way that I could somehow make a difference.

I took the next couple of years to read as many books as possible about Arctic History, Inuit Culture, and Aboriginal Tradition to understand better the people who had impacted my heart. Eventually, I realized I could use my skillset as a social media marketing consultant and owner of a consulting company to make a small difference, perhaps, so I launched Hope For the Arctic.

My goal is to better connect the people of the Arctic with the rest of the world and hopefully provide some connecting points where we can all appreciate each other more and support each other in some way. I want to grow a network of elders willing to share stories on our website and collaborate with locals to share their stories, events, and photos.

I promise to always do my best to respect the culture and traditions of the Arctic Region and never to stop learning and listening so I can properly serve the area of the planet that has made such a profound impact on my life.

If you ever have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me, and if you’d like to volunteer, donate, or support our mission, I’d love to hear from you.

Please note: Hope for the Arctic is NOT a Faith-Based Organization and is in NO WAY associated with any faith-based organizations. While we believe having a personal belief system is wonderful, it is not our goal to influence your beliefs in any direction, and we recognize that for thousands in the Arctic, “Organized Religion” has been the primary assailant of their personal rights, culture, and history.
